For the first time in 2022, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) moved into first place in the electricity generation mix in Greece.
According to the data of ADMIE, 2022 is a milestone, as the image of the previous years was reversed, where the largest share in electricity generation was occupied by natural gas and previously by lignite.
In particular, in 2022 RES were at the top with a share of 41.6%. In second place was natural gas with 38% and third was lignite with 11.8%. Finally, the share of hydroelectric was 8.5%.
This means that clean forms of energy (RES and hydro) contributed 50.1%, while fossil fuels 49.9%. It is noted that in 2021 the corresponding percentage of clean forms of energy was 46.1%
